Mike's Drywasher

This is my homemade dry-washer used to concentrate desert gold bearing sand and ready it for panning. The design was taken from studying many different styles of puffer dry-washers. The pulley is a 17" round made from pine and grooved for a v-belt. It is powered by an auto heater blower 12 volt motor with a 3/8" bore X 1 1/2" drive v-pulley shimmed to the 5/16" shaft. Raw material is shoveled onto a classifying screen angled at 45 degrees and drops to a sluice designed to capture gold. The sluice tray has a bottom of tightly stretched muslin, allowing air from the bellows below to pass through and agitate the material. Gold settles ahead of the riffles on the sluice and that "finished material" is panned. Homemade Bucket Trommel: mlaine.homeip.net PS. I made some changes after this trial ...............see the finished product below. www.youtube.com
